Westbye investigates how somatic, psychological and procedural variables can help predict which patients will experience various types of pain problems after surgical interventions, and which patients are at risk of developing complications, as well as how they can help to develop secondary preventive measures.

Øvrebotten is a nurse and ambulance worker, with a master’s degree in prehospital emergency medicine from UiS and further education in college pedagogy. Has experience with project development and project management. She works in a shared position as an assistant professor at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, and as a PhD candidate in Helse Førde with the project: The perioperative pain trajectory: a qualitative exploration of stakeholders’ experiences and perspectives as feasibility basis for a predictive patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) system aiming to prevent chronic postsurgical pain (MAPIP-FEAS), knytt til Helse Vest-prosjektet «Personalized and data-driven specialty care.
