Øien is a trained nurse and has a master’s in clinical nutrition physiology. She now works as a 50% Ph.D scholar at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences with the project, “A structure for personalized self-management support and stepped follow-up care in bariatric surgery.” Øien also serves as a 50% research advisor/coordinator at the Section for Research and Innovation Førde Hospital Trust.
